We are all so fortunate to live in the greater Philadelphia area, a region where you can always find new and exciting things to do no matter how well you know the lay of the land. There could be a dozen completely different lists of the top things to do in the Tri-State area and the debate on which is factual could go on and on forever. However, for those visiting or new to the area, there are certain spots you just must hit to get the full Tri-State experience. They may seem basic to those of us familiar with Philly, but there's no denying that these are the bare essentials to ensure your trip to the city of brotherly love is as authentic as possible.
1. Go to a game
No matter what time of the year you're in town, there will always be a sporting event of some kind going on. Whether you want to catch a Phillies game on a summer night, a Sixers or Flyers game at the Wells Fargo center or even a drive down to Dover if you're around for race day, there are options for all types of sports fans in any given week.
2. Eat a Philly Cheesesteak
Whether you're Geno's or Tony Luke's, wiz or American, wit or wit-out, the cheesesteak is an undeniable culinary staple of Philadelphia. You'll hear recommendations for spots all over town, and even some outside the city limits, all claiming to be the real best cheesesteak in all the land, but wherever you go you're sure to get a real taste of Philly.
3. Go down the shore
If the weather is nice, particularly during the summer, you really can't miss a chance to hit the beaches all along the Jersey shore. From Cape May to Long Beach Island and everywhere in between, nothing beats a long day on the beach with friends and family.
4. See the sights
In a city as historic and beautiful as Philadelphia, you'd be remiss not to do a little sightseeing during your stay. Historic sites like the Liberty Bell, museums like the Art Museum or the Franklin Institute, and beautiful photo spots like the LOVE statue or boat house row are all worth seeing. However with such a wide variety of places to see and things to do, all the locations listed above and many more will be plenty worth your time.
5. Go to the mall
Whether you're a shopaholic or you're in and out of the store in no time there is something for everyone at the King of Prussia Mall, the nation's largest shopping mall. Just a quick drive from the city, you can find almost anything you could ever want or need in the almost 3 million square feet of stores, restaurants and vendors.
These are just 5 of the almost endless ways to spend your time in the greater Philly area. With such endless possibilities it's almost impossible to be bored in the city of brotherly love, and we hope that whether you're new in town or just visiting for a few days, you find the perfect way to spend your time in Philadelphia.
